Gandaki Chief Minister Pandey resigns

Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Surendra Raj Pandey has resigned from his post on Wednesday morning.

Chief Minister Pandey tendered his resignation to the chief of Gandaki Province, Dilli Raj Bhatta this morning.

Pandey who had taken charge as the chief minister of Gandaki Province in accordance with Article 168 (2), resigned from his post after CPN (Maoist Center) pulled of the government.

Pandey will now make efforts to become the CM again as the lawmaker representing the largest party in the province, a leader close to Pandey said.

Maoist Center withdrew its support to the Pandey-led province government on March 6 following the formation of a new coalition in the center including CPN (UML).

The four parties of the ruling coalition including Maoist Center, UML, Janata Samajbadi Party and CPN (Unified Socialist) on Monday reached an agreement on the power-sharing deal on provincial governments. 

As per the agreement, the Maoist Center will lead Bagmati and Lumbini provinces and the UML will take the helm at the Gandaki, Karnali, and Koshi provinces.

Likewise, Nagarik Unmukti Party will lead Sudurpaschim Province while Janata Samajbadi Party will take the helm at the Madhes Province, a source at Baluwatar said. 

In the 60-member province assembly of Gandaki Province, NC has 27 lawmakers, UML (22), Maoist Center (8), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (2) and one independent lawmaker.
