Mira Pun Magar, a woman of Nepali origin, made history by becoming the first Nepali woman to be recruited into the Hong Kong police force.
This is the first time a Nepali woman was recruited even though Nepali men are already serving in the Hong Kong police.
Mira joined the Hong Kong police on Monday after completing a training under the ‘Himalaya Project’ operated by the police in Yau Tsim Mong, Yuen Long regions.
Originally from Myagdi, Mira’s parents have been living in Hong Kong for a long time.
Hong Kong has been launching the ‘Himalaya Project’ targeting the minority community which offers free Chinese language classes, physical fitness training and the skills of integrating with the local community.
This project was launched with the aim of recruiting people into the Hong Kong police. People from minority community are joining the Hong Kong police after completing this training.
Nepali people are already serving in the Hong Kong police which has a strength of 35,000 police forces.
