Gun-toting gang chops sacred bodhichitta tree in Kavre

An unidentified gang of people wielding weapons felled down a bodhichitta tree (prayer beads) in Roshi Rural Municipality of Kavre district.

An armed gang of 15 to 20 people cut down the sacred tree of prayer beads grown in the field belonging to Thakurani Tamang at Roshi Rural Municipality-5 on Thursday night, said police.

“Four improvised explosive devices were recovered at the door and courtyard of Tamang.  Similarly, a jacket emblazoned with the words “Janamukti Sena” was also found nearby,” DSP Raj Kumar Shrestha told Nepalkhabar, “A team of police is at the incident site. We are investigating the case.”

Tamang said around 20 people wielding weapons came to the field on Thursday night (1 am today) and felled a bodhichitta tree at gunpoint, said Tamang.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Area Police Office, Mangaltar fanned out to the incident site and has been investigating the case, said DSP Shrestha.

“A bodhichitta tree yields valuable fruits,” DSP Shrestha quoted the owner as saying, “Those who were envious of the tree may have felled the tree. We are investigating the case.”

Those involved in cutting down the tree is yet to be identified. No one has been arrested so far, said Shrestha.
