Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, Saroj Kumar Yadav, is taking a vote of confidence today (Tuesday).
The Province Parliament Secretariat has called a meeting of the Province Assembly for 1 pm today to take the vote of confidence by the Chief Minister.
Chief Minister Yadav said that he will secure the vote of confidence. "I can easily secure the vote of confidence since I have the backing of the ruling alliance," Chief Minister Yadav told Nepakhabar.
After Nepali Congress pulled out of the Madhesh government following the formation of a new ruling coalition including the CPN (UML), Province Chief Yadav is going to take the vote of confidence.
Yadav, who was appointed Chief Minister 15 months ago, is going to take the vote of confidence for the fourth time today.
Earlier, following the formation of a new coalition at the center, the NC quit the Madhesh government on March 18 and withdrew its support to the province government on March 22.
A legal provision has it that the chief minister has to take the vote of confidence within 30 days once a party in the government withdraws its support.
Janata Samajbadi Party leader Yadav was appointed as the Chief Minister of Madhesh government on January 11, 2023 with the support of 63 provincial assembly members of UML, Maoist Center, Janamat, RPP, and Nepal Federal Socialist Party.
In the 107-member Madhesh Province Assembly, the support of 54 Province Assembly members is required to secure the vote of confidence. Currently, the NC and Janamat Party are against Yadav.
In the Madhesh Province Assembly, there are 24 MPs from UML, 22 from NC, 18 from JSP, 13 from Janamat Party, 9 each from Maoist Center and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, and 7 from Unified Socialist Party.
As things stand, it seems that Yadav will get the support of 60 lawmakers including 24 from UML, JSP 18, Maoist Center 9, and Unified Socialist (7).
