Legendary mountaineer Nirmal Purja popularly known as Nims has added another feather to his cap by making the greatest number of ascents of eight-thousanders.

Nirmal Purja conquered Mt Annapurna (8,091m) when it clocked 12:15 pm on April 13 (Saturday.)

With this, Nirmal has set a new record by taking his total number of summits of over 8,000 meters to 44.  “This is the highest number of ascents of eight-thousanders ever conquered,” claimed Nirmal.

While making 44 summits in a short span of time, Nims, a multiple record-holding climber, summitted Mt Everest eight times, Mt K2 four times including the first winter ascent in 2021 and Mt Lhotse for the fifth time.

“After scaling Annapurna I, Nirmal said, “I make a new record every time I conquer world’s peaks of over 8,000ers.”

Nirmal has already climbed all 14 eight-thousanders.

After quitting a lucrative career with the British Army, Nims had started scaling mountains for a cause in 2019.
