The government has decided to deploy the Nepali Army for the security of the upcoming by-elections.
President Ramchandra Paudel has approved the deployment of the Nepali Army for the security of House of Representatives election to be held in Ilam-2 and the Provincial Assembly election in Bajhang-1.
The decision to deploy the Nepali Army comes in response to the recommendation of the National Security Council, supported by the Council of Ministers.
The by-elections are scheduled to be held in Ilam-2 and Bajhang-1 on April 27, necessitating the heightened security measures to hold the elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
“The President has approved the mobilization of the Nepali Army to conduct the by elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner in accordance with Article 66 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal,” said the Office of the President.
The Council of Ministers held on April 22, 2024 had sent a letter to the President in line with the recommendation of the National Security Council, requesting the latter for the deployment of the Nepali Army to smoothly conduct the upcoming by-elections.
