Voting for by-elections in Ilam-2 began at 7:00 am. According to Chief Election Officer, Keshav Prasad Ghimire, the voting started peacefully in all 149 polling centers under the constituency.
A total of 745 staffers, 1,523 Nepal Police personnel, 710 Armed Police Force personnel, 450 Nepali Army personnel and 24 personnel of the National Investigation Department have been mobilized to conduct the election in a peaceful and fearless environment, he shared.
The constituency has a total of 115,889 eligible voters. Of them, 59,018 male voters, 56,869 female voters and two 'third gender' voters, according to the Election Commission.
CPN (UML) candidate Suhang Nembang has cast his vote at the polling center in Mahendra Ranta Multiple Campus under Ilam 2 constituency.
Similarly, Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate Milan Limbu has cast his vote at the polling center in Janakalyan Secondary School based in Mangsebung-2.
There are a total of 1207 voters in this polling center. Of them, 558 voters are in polling center A, and 618 are in polling center B.
A total of 19 candidates including eight independents are vying for by-elections in Ilam Constituency 2.
Suhang Nembang from CPN (UML), Dambar Khadka from Nepali Congress, Jit Bahadur Rai from CPN (Unified Socialist), Prem Kumar Thamsuhang (Premdeep) from Janamat Party, Shyam Bahadur Darji from Nepal Workers Peasants Party, Mani Bahadur Limbu from Mongol National Organization, Milan Limbu from Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) are contesting the elections in Ilam 2, said Chief Returning Officer Keshav Prasad Ghimire.
Similarly, other candidates vying for the by-elections are Laxmi Gurung from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Ganesh Bahadur Chauhan from RPP Nepal, Jaywant Vikram Shah from Rastriya Mukti Andolan Dal, Resham Bahadur Sunar from Nepali Janata Dal, Dhanraj Rana Magar from National Republican Party.
Similarly, eight independent candidates including Dakendra Singh Limbu are contesting the elections.
