Voting for a member of the House of Representatives is taking place in Ilam Constituency 2 today. The candidates have cast their votes from their respective polling centers.
Even though 19 are contesting the elections, especially four candidates -- Suhang Nembang from UPN (UML), Dambar Khadka from Nepali Congress, Dakendra Singh Thegim (independent) from the pro-identity group, and Milan Limbu from Rastriya Swatantra Party – are in the limelight.
UML candidate Suhang Nembang cast his vote from the polling center in Mahendra Ranta Multiple Campus. Similarly, NC's Dambar Khadka cast his vote from polling center (A) in Mahendra Ratna Multiple Campus.
Similarly, Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate Milan Limbu has cast his vote from the polling center in Janakalyan Secondary School based in Mangsebung-2. Similarly, Dakendra Singh Thegim has cast his vote from Phakphokthum-3, Amchowk polling center.
Chief Election Officer, Keshav Prasad Ghimire said the voting started peacefully in all 149 polling centers at 7 am under the constituency.
A total of 745 staffers, 1,523 Nepal Police personnel, 710 Armed Police Force personnel, 450 Nepali Army personnel, and 24 personnel of the National Investigation Department have been mobilized to conduct the election in a peaceful and fearless environment, he shared.
The constituency has a total of 115,889 eligible voters. Of them, 59,018 male voters, 56,869 female voters, and two 'third gender' voters, according to the Election Commission.
The by-election is taking place in Ilam-2 after former Speaker and member of the House of Representatives Subas Nembang passed away on September 12, 2023.
The voting will continue until 5 pm.
