Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha has held a bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart Kamikawa Yoko at the Foreign Ministry in Singha Durbar on Sunday.
The two leaders exchanged views on further elevating Nepal-Japan relations and bilateral cooperation during the meeting, a source at the Foreign Ministry said.
This is Kamikawa's first visit to Nepal since her appointment as Japan's Foreign Affairs Minister. Talking to media persons after the meeting, DPM Shrestha shared that they dwelt on broadening economic cooperation between the two countries besides deliberating on various international affairs.
Since it is Kamikawa's formal goodwill visit, no agreement was made between the two counterparts during the bilateral talks, clarified DPM Shrestha.
Prior to this, visiting Minister Yoko also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamala Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at the latter’s office in Singha Durbar. Bilateral cooperation and mutual interests were discussed during the meeting, sources have said.
Foreign Minister of Japan Yoko who arrived in Nepal on Sunday afternoon at the invitation of Foreign Minister Shrestha visited Basantapur Durbar Square earlier in the day and bought a Buddha statue.
She is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Ramchandra Paudel and attend a dinner reception to be hosted by Foreing Minister Shrestha.
Japanese Minister Yoko will depart from Kathmand by a flight of Nepal Airlines tonight, wrapping up her one-day visit to Nepal.
