The government is all set to launch hop-on hop-off city buses for tourists to visit heritage sites in the Kathmandu Valley.
The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation said hop-on hop-off city buses will be operated to facilitate the sightseeing tours targeting the heritage sites in the federal capital.
The special city bus operation has been taken forward in line with the plan introduced earlier by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jeevan Ram Shrestha.
According to the plan, five electric vehicles of Sajha Yatayat will reach every half an hour Patan, Kathmandu Durbar, Pashupati, Bouddha and Swayambhu in the first phase.
In the second phase, the buses will be made available to visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Changunarayan. The arrangement has been made in such a way that a tourist can ride any buses throughout the day on hop-on hop-off basis on a single ticket.
It will take around 3 hours to travel 30 kilometers. This project will come into operation from January 1, next year, said Minister Shrestha.
A discussion was held regarding the city bus operation with the stakeholders at the ministry on Sunday. The operator of Sajha Yatayat, entrepreneurs, experts and traffic police officials were present in the meeting.
It is expected that tourists will reach within in a few hours major tourist destinations listed in the world heritage sites.
