Chairman of Kantipur Media Group, Kailash Sirohiya being taken to Dhanusha District Court on Wednesday.
Chairman of Kantipur Media Group, Kailash Sirohiya, who was arrested for the first time in citizenship issue, has been produced at the Dhanusha District Court seeking a five-day remand.
Media Mogul Sirohiya, who was taken to Dhanusha after being arrested from the Thapathali-based office of Kantipur Publications on Tuesday, will be investigated by keeping him in police custody, if permission were granted by the court.
The Dhanusha District Court yesterday issued an arrest warrant permitting the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office to detain Sirohiya for investigation in the alleged citizenship fraud case.
Police allege inconsistencies with Kailash Sirohiya's citizenship documents. They claim a duplicate citizenship number exists, that Sirohiya has used different numbers at times, and that the date of birth listed on his citizenship card is questionable.
Sirohiya accused Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane of targeting him out of personal vendetta, claiming that his detention is nothing but a prejudiced move.
While being arrested on Tuesday, Sirohiya commented that Home Minister Lamichhane detained him in retaliation after Kantipur published a series of news on the embezzlement of cooperatives’ fund involving Lamichhane.
The government has been under fire following the arrest of Sirohiya.
