The government has decided to completely waive the 3 percent equity fee in the education and health sectors.
The proposal, submitted by Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle on Wednesday, was approved by the Council of Ministers.
The Finance Minister today presented a ministerial decision to the Council of Ministers to fully waive the 3 percent Education and Health Equity Fees under Section 18(1) of the Finance Act 2083.
Following the presentation, the Cabinet formally endorsed the complete waiver of both fees.
After consulting with Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen), Wagle had decided to waive the fees by taking a ministerial decision on Wednesday.
The fee, announced in the budget for the fiscal year 2083/84, came into effect from July 17. The move follows growing public backlash against the newly introduced fees.
In this context, a long consultation was held between the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister on Monday. Then, on Tuesday afternoon, the Prime Minister announced that the process to remove the fee would be initiated.
