A 40-year-old Kenyan citizen has died while climbing Mt Everest without supplemental oxygen.
According to the Department of Tourism, Kenyan climber Cheruiyot Kirui was found dead at an altitude of 8,830 meters on May 22 at 10:30 pm.
Ngwang Sherpa, a 44-year-old Nepali mountain guide from Likhu Pike Rural Municipality, who was accompanying him as a guide, has gone missing.
They started climbing from the base camp on May 18. On May 22, they were heading towards the peak of Everest from the fourth camp, according to the Department.
As they did not come into contact no radio even till 2 pm on Wednesday, Seven Summit mobilized four mountaineering guides and deployed a search and rescue team above Camp 2.
The condition of Sherpa is unknown and the search and rescue is ongoing, the Department said.
