President of Cricket Association of Nepal, Chatur Bahadur Chand, has flown to America, to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup.

Chanda flew to the USA along with his wife on Wednesday. A 25-member team including 15 players and 10 officials is participating in the World Cup.

The 10-member team of officials formed by CAN to participate does not include journalists.

The team includes chief coach Monty Desai, assistant coach Basanta Shahi Thakuri, cricket consultant Nandan Phadnis, bowling consultant Rod Estwick, analyst Raman Shiwakoti, physio Bikram Neupane, fitness trainer Abdul Sattar, team manager Pradeep Majgaiya and team leader Diwakar Ghale.

Chand, who flew to America at a time while cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane’s participation in the World Cup is on hold, has courted criticisms on social networking sites.

After the US Embassy denied visa application to Lamichhane, the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are taking initiations at the diplomatic level to ensure his eligibility for travel.

Lamichhane’s supporters staged demonstrations at Maitighar today demanding visa for him.

Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha talked to American Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R Thompson, on Lamichhane’s visa application on Tuesday.

However, no information has been received from the US Embassy despite its assurances that it would take a decision on Lamichhane’s visa promptly, the Foreign Ministry said.
