Jyoti Shrestha, who arrived at Sukute in Sindhupalchowk on Arani Highway for rafting from Kathmandu, experienced the greatest joy of her life.
A jumbo group of 13 including Jyoti arrived on Friday for rafting on the Sunkosi River in Sindhupalchowk, which is a popular tourist destination in Nepal.
"We only heard about Sukute, now we got to enjoy the rafting ourselves", said Jyoti excitedly, "We were afraid that there would be a lot of traffic on Saturday."
She said that she has already made up her mind to arrange a college vacation and come back with other friends.
"After rafting, I realized that it is so much fun, we 'share' the experience with all our friends and inspire them to come here", said her friend Shailesh Shrestha, who was standing with Jyoti after the rafting.
This group was a bit scared because it was a new and dangerous game for life. Unfamiliar with the river's treacherous currents, Shrestha's heart pounded as they embarked on this daunting new adventure.
He said that it was a fun experience when his friends started shouting with joy and enjoying the water.
Rojina Shrestha, who came from Bhaktapur, said that she had come to enjoy rafting with a 'corporate' team.
"We have a team of 50 people including foreigners", she said, "Now the summer has started, for this reason we have come together as a group."
She says that she has booked in advance because the resorts here are full on Fridays and Saturdays. Rojina had done rafting before. Remembering the fun of that time, she came back to Sunkoshi.
With the advent of summer, in Sukute, the number of domestic and foreign tourists enjoying the adventure sport of rafting has increased rapidly. The resort operators say that the number of tourists has increased since mid-February.
There has been an increase in the number of rafting tourists since last week due to the extreme heat.
Mahendra Singh Thapa, owner of Sukute Beach Adventure Resort, says that all the resorts here are busy because the number of tourists doing adventure sports rafting and cannoning is increasing daily.
"More than 100 domestic and foreign tourists come every day", says Thapa, "Since this is the season for rafting, the pressure is expected to increase."
At least 2,000 tourists enter Sindhupalchowk every week for rafting. Rafting in Bhotekoshi and Sunkoshi is the goal of tourists coming from the federal capital to Europe and America.
