PM Dahal off to New Delhi to attend Modi’s swearing-in ceremony

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has left for New Delhi to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

Leading a five-member delegation, Prime Minister Dahal flew to New Delhi on a flight of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) a while ago.

Prime Minister Dahal’s daughter Ganga Dahal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal and other high-ranking government employees are accompanying Prachanda.

President of India Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office and secrecy to 40 ministers including the Prime Minister Modi amidst a ceremony at Rashtrpati Bhawan 7:15 pm, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

During the visit, Prime Minister Dahal is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Modi, according to the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi.

Along with Modi, 40 MPs will take oath as ministers including 14 from the NDA alliance, two each from TDP and JDU, and one from Shiv Sena.

In addition to Nepal, the heads of state and government of seven countries including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives, Seychelles, Mauritius, and Bhutan will participate. However, the heads of state of China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan will not participate.

Modi became the Prime Minister for the first time in 2014. After this, he became the prime minister in 2019.

Prime Minister Dahal is scheduled to return home on Monday.
