Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane has left for West Indies to play ICC Men's T20 World Cup cricket tournament. He flew to West Indies on Sunday night.
Sandeep, who was unable to go to America on the ground of not being granted a visa by the US, will play for the Nepali team in the two West Indies matches, according to Nepal Cricket of Association (CAN).
Nepal is scheduled to compete against South Africa and Bangladesh in the West Indies. CAN Secretary Paras Khadka has informed through a statement that Sandeep will participate in both matches.
"Even though his US visa application was not approved, we would like to inform you that cricketer Lamichhane will participate in the two matches of Nepal against South Africa and Bangladesh in the West Indies," the statement said.
The CAN statement also claimed that the negative statements aimed at CAN regarding Sandeep's visa are not true. CAN has also requested media outlets not to disseminate such unnecessary and baseless statements.
According to CAN, Sandeep was included in the official 15-man squad for the World Cup after the high court acquitted him in the rape case and submitted the final list to the ICC.
