Afghanistan has defeated Australia by 21 runs in the eight match of the Super Eight of the of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Australia was bowled out for 127 runs in 19.2 overs while it was chasing the 149-run target set by Afghanistan.
To restrict the opponent, Gulbadin Naib claimed the highest four wickets giving away 20 runs followed by Naveen-ul-Haq with three wickets. Similarly, Rashid Khan, Azmatullah Omarzai and Rashid Khan took one wicket each for Afghanistan.
Despite Glenn Maxwell’s half-century run score, Austria could not reach the set target. Maxwell hit 59 runs including six fours and three sixes off 41 balls.
Captain Mitchell Marsh scored 12 runs while Marcus Stoinis contributed 11 runs. The other batsmen could not achieve significant runs.
Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent, Afghanistan notched up 148 runs losing six wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz topped the score with 60 runs including four fours and four sixes off 49 balls. Similarly, Ibrahim Zadran scored 51 runs with the help of six fours off 48 deliveries. Karim Janat and Mohammad Nabi contributed 13 and 10 balls, respectively. The other batsmen could not achieve significant runs.
Gulbadin Naib was declared the Player of the Match.
