India entered the semi-finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup by thrashing Australia by 21 runs in its last match of the Super Eight.
While India reached the semi-finals by remaining unbeaten in the Super Eight, Australia has to wait for the result of the match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh for the next journey.
In Group A of the Super Eight, India has collected 6 points from 3 matches. Australia has 2 points from an equal number of matches. Afghanistan has two points from two matches, while Bangladesh is without any points.
In the final match of the Super Eight to be held today, Afghanistan will reach the semi-finals if it wins the match against Bangladesh.
In case Afghanistan is defeated, Australia, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan will have two points each. In this case, the team that ranks second in the group based on net run rate will reach the semi-finals.
Chasing the 206-run target given by India on Monday night, Australia could score only 191 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Despite opener Travis Head's 76-run score, Australia could not avert the defeat. Head hit nine fours and four sixes off 43 balls.
Similarly, team captain Mitchell Marsh scored 37, Glenn Maxwell scored 20 and Tim David added 15 runs.
In reply, India's Arshdeep Singh took 3 wickets. Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets and Jaspreet Bumrah and Axar Patel took one wicket each.
Earlier, invited to bat first after losing the toss, India made a total of 205 runs for the loss of five wickets in the scheduled 20 overs.
Captain Rohit Sharma hit 7 fours and 8 sixes off 41 balls to notch up the highest 92 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav scored 31 runs, Shivam Dubey scored 28 runs, Hardik Pandya scored 27 runs and Rishabh Pant scored 15 runs.
On the bowling side, Mitchell Starc and Marcus Stoinis took 2 wickets each for Australia. Josh Hazlewood took 1 wicket for Australia.
England and South Africa have already reached the Semi Finals.
