Nepal has proposed establishing a joint commission with China, to be led by the foreign ministers of both countries.
Nepal floated this proposal at the 16th meeting of the Nepal-China Diplomatic Consultation Mechanism which started in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
Currently, there is only a bilateral diplomatic mechanism between Nepal and China at the foreign secretary level. India and Nepal have already had a foreign minister level commission.
Sources privy to the meeting said that Nepal proposed establishing a commission in the meeting saying that it would be easier to solve the problem between the two countries through a ministerial-level commission.
China is yet to respond to the proposal floated by Nepal.
With the growing relations and cooperation with China in various sectors of development, Nepal felt the need for a minister level commission as it will be easier to discuss and resolve various bilateral issues in an effective manner, diplomats have said.
