Rolpa jeep mishap: Death toll hits seven, six in critical condition

The death toll in the jeep accident that occurred in Rolpa on Monday evening has reached seven. Eight people were injured in the accident. According to the District Police Office (DPO), Rolpa, six among those injured are in serious condition.

Inspector Rohit Kumar Shahi, information officer at DPO, Rolpa, informed that six out of the deceased have been identified.

According to Shahi, the deceased are 77-year-old Khadga Dangi of Madi Rural Municipality of Rolpa, 30-year-old Amrita Gharti of the same place, 33-year-old Junmaya Khadka, 31-year-old Ramkali Pun of Pariwartan Rural Municipality 2, Rolpa, 50-year-old Karma Gharti Magar of Madi Rural Municipality-3 and 27-year-old Chuplal Dangi.

The identity of the around 18-month-old girl who died in the accident is yet to be established. It is suspected that she is the daughter of Amrita who lost her life in the accident,” Inspector Shahi told Nepalkhabar.

Two of the eight injured have been discharged after treatment. "Six people in serious condition have been taken to Butwal at night for further treatment," said Shahi.

The ill-fated jeep, Lu 1 Ja 3252, heading to Talabang from Ghartigaun in Rolpa met with an accident on Monday at 6 pm near Parewa Chahara on the Ghartigaun-Talabang road section.

Shahi said that the jeep fell some 400 meters below the road.

The police speculated that the jeep met with an accident while trying to swerve the landslide on the road. Passengers said that when the driver was trying to avoid a landslide and pass the vehicle from some high place, the jeep moved backward and fell down the road.

Passengers who were returning home after shopping in the market and working in the office of the rural municipality met with the accident. A total of 15 people including the driver were traveling in the jeep, according to the police.
