Attempts are underway to recover the Indian number plate bus that plunged into the Masryangdi River on August 23.
The Muglin-Anbukhaireni road section has been closed since Monday morning while efforts are being made to retrieve the bus with the help of a crane. Passengers have been stranded due to the closure of the road section.
However, the bus has not yet been taken out from the riverbank.
According to SP Birendra Bahadur Shahi of District Police Office, Tanahun, efforts are underway to remove the bus by roping in another crane.
"We are just trying to bring another crane, in a last ditch effort, to pull out the bus from the riverbank," said SP Shahi, "If we failed to retrieve it even within an hour, we will stop the work for today."
The police said that it was difficult to pull the bus out due to a cliff lodged just above the river.
According to SP Shahi, the road section will be opened after an hour. Even though the local police administration said the traffic would resume after 10 am, it seems to be taking a longer time as the recovery process is taking longer than anticipated due to the challenges involved in retrieving the bus.
Twenty-seven people lost their lives when a bus with an Indian number plate, UP 53 FT 7623, fell into the Marsyangdi River on Friday morning.
The bodies of the deceased were sent to India by an Indian Air Force aircraft on Saturday after conducting their autopsy.
