Two children drowned in an irrigation pond at Halesi Tuwachung Municipality-3, Bangma, Khotang on Monday evening.
Six-year-old son Sangam Rai and three-year-old daughter Smridhdhi Rai of Gayindra Rai of Bangma, Cyamistar drowned in the irrigation pond, Ward Chairman Bhupal Singh Rai said.
The two kids, who were playing the whole day in the house, went missing in the evening. The family members conducted a search and tragically discovered their loved ones drowning in an irrigation pond near the Bhutiya rivulet at 5:45 PM, Rai explained.
Sangam was a student in grade 2 at Kalanka Basic School based in Cyamistar. His father Gayindra Rai is abroad for foreign employment. The whole village is in a state of shock after the two children of Gayindra and Mamata have drowned in the pond.
Earlier, 11-year-old Arjun Rai and nine-year-old Rajan Rai of Ainselukharka Rural Municipality-1, Khiru drowned in the course of swimming in a local Chankhu rivulet on August 23.
