PM Shah directs for forming Textile and Clothing Development Council

Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said the government is committed to developing the readymade garment industry.

During his meeting today with the office-bearers from the Garment Association-Nepal at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister said the government is always committed to protecting the interests of those engaged in the garment manufacturing.

Following his meeting with the Association people, he directed the departmental ministers to promptly proceed ahead with the formation of the 'Textile and Clothing Development Council'.

Garment manufacturers expect that it will be convenient in the promotion of exports of readymade garments based on domestically available raw materials and in the import management.

As per the demand of the concerned industrialists and business community, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Industry to immediately restart the ailing industries.

He also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to clear the way for Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for the promotion of garment sector.

The Prime Minister expressed commitments to producing skilled human resources required to fulfill the objectives of 'Farm to Fiber', 'Fiber to Fabric', 'Fabric to Fashion' and 'Fashion to Export' initiatives.

Underlining the need to graduate Nepal from an underdeveloped country to a developing country, he stressed that issues faced by garment industries should be addressed towards reaching that goal.

Association's President Pashupati Dev Pandey, First Vice President Basanta Raj Adhikari, General Secretary Bhim Kumar Giri, Chief Executive Officer Suyash Khanal and Technical Advisor Prakash Kumar Jha were among those present in the meeting.
