Two Spanish tourists have gone missing in the Ghorepani trekking area of the Annapurna Circuit.
Spanish citizens Eric Kavanovas (male) and Molas Junca Mesi (male) went out of contact after they left for Ghorepani from Annapurna Rural Municipality-9, Tikhedhunga, Kaski, via Ulleri, Bharat Man Gurung, spokesperson for Annapurna Rural Municipality, said.
Two bags of tourists had been found near the bridge of Bhurundi rivulet on Sunday evening.
They could not be tracked down even though a massive search was conducted throughout the day on Monday. It is suspected that they might have been swept away by the swollen Bhurungdi rivulet.
"They may have been swept away by the rivulet while going through the old trail. They had recorded at the ACAP tourist checkpost at Birethanti stating that they were heading to Ghorepani," said Spokesperson Gurung.
Chief of ACAP Birethanti checkpost, Yam Bahadur Gurung said the tourists registered their names on Sunday morning. He suspected that they might have slipped into the rivulet while taking photographs near the waterfall.
"There is a beautiful waterfall near the place where the bags of the tourists were found. They might have fallen into the rivulet while taking photographs of the waterfall. A team comprising security personnel, representatives, and locals searched for the missing tourists. Noting was found except two walking sticks," said Spokesperson Gurung.
A team of divers will search for the missing tourists on Tuesday. The Embassy of Spain has been informed regarding the missing of the tourists.
