Narasimha Deluxe bus plunges into Saptakoshi; all 17 rescued

A passenger bus, Narasimha Deluxe, has plunged into the Saptakoshi River after it went out of control on Thursday evening.

Seventeen passengers have been rescued from the accident site. "The rescue work is underway, currently," said Sunsari SP Bipin Regmi, "The injured have been taken to various hospitals for treatment after rescue."

The bus, Ko 1 Kha 4601, heading to Saptari from Biratnagar, veered off the Koshi barrage and fell into the river, Chief District Office of Sunsari, Ramchandra Tiwari, told Nepalkhabar.

Seventeen people including the driver were traveling in the ill-fated bus. Of them, 12 are being treated at Koshi Health Care Hospital, Sunsari while four passengers are undergoing treatment at Bhardaha Hospital. Driver chandan Kumar Mehata of Lahan Municipality-8 has been taken under control, said Saptari DSP Dhundi Raj Neupane.

The bus fell into the river by breaking the wall to the south of sluice number 35 of the barrage, according to the police.
