Prime Minister and CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli is laying a foundation stone for the construction of a new central party office building on the day of Nawami of Bada Dashain which falls on Friday.
The new office building will be constructed in the area of 10 to 12 ropanis of land near Tinthana in Kirtipur Municipality-2, a UML source has said.
According to a UML leader privy to the meeting, Chairman Oli will lay a foundation stone for the new building at 12:25 pm amidst a ceremony tomorrow.
Oli had briefed the secretariat meeting of the building construction plan this afternoon.
Following the collapse of its central party office building in Madan Nagar, Bhalkhu, during the 2015 earthquake, the UML has been renting various buildings across the city, including locations in Dhumbarahi, Thapathali, and Chyasal.
Although the UML owns 9 ropanis of land in Bhalkhu, the recent Supreme Court ruling mandating a 40-meter setback from rivers would significantly reduce the usable area.
If this standard is implemented, the UML's land would be reduced to approximately 1.5 ropanis.
A meeting of the UML's National Convention Representatives' Council held on April 20-22 had started a campaign to collect funds for the construction of its central party office building.
UML has more than 800,000 active party members across the country.
