The Election Commission of Nepal (ECN) has requested the Home Ministry to provide details about the citizenship status of individuals who renounced their Nepali citizenship before obtaining NRNA citizenship.
A meeting of the ECN on Thursday sought the details about the previous Nepali citizenship status of individuals who obtained NRNA citizenship in order to update the voter-list for the upcoming local level by-elections.
The District Administration Office (DAO) has to provide the details about the individuals who have renounced the previous citizenship in accordance with the law, Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Sapkota said.
An individual willing to obtain an NRNA citizenship has to submit the evidence showing that he/she has renounced the previous citizenship as required by the law.
The ECN has directed the Home Ministry to provide the details of the renouncement of the previous Nepali citizenship to the district election offices via the concerned district administration offices by October 21.
The voter list will be updated by removing the names of individuals who have obtained NRNA citizenship, based on the information received through the district administration offices.
