The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Global conference has started in the Kathmandu Valley.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has inaugurated the two-day conclave amidst a program this morning.
Saying that the reputation of the Association deteriorated over the few years, Prime Minister Oli urged the NARA leadership to stand united for their country of origin and the upliftment of community.
He further urged the NRNA to come up with proposals to make the NRNA citizenship cards useful, hinting at the amendments of NRNA citizenship provision through the parliament.
The government has created conducive environment by building infrastructures for NRNAs to work in Nepal, Oli added.
"If the organization stands united, it will be easier to work," he said, "With the infrastructure including roads, and airways in place, an investment-friendly environment has been created."
Similarly, NRNA President Badri KC has said that the organization has been working to restore its image around the globe. He further said the NRNA is always ready to assist Nepal in times of natural disasters.
"Nepali people living across the world have sent over 1.5 trillion in remittance to Nepal. A large scale of investment has come to Nepal, said KC, "There have been conditions that NRNAs are still compelled to invest as foreigners. We should be allowed to invest without legal restrictions."
The first day of the event will be focused on discussions on infrastructure building for economic transformation in Nepal, non-resident Nepali citizenship, voting rights and Gurkhas, foreign nationals of Nepali origin, impact of climate change on women and children, transfer of science, knowledge and technology for a prosperous Nepal.
Likewise, on the second day, there will be sessions on empowerment of migrant youths for nation building, ensuring safe, orderly and dignified foreign employment and social security and tourism promotion policy, expectations, challenges and the role of NRNA.
Over 500 representatives from different countries are participating in the two-day conference.
