President Ramchandra Paudel has arrived here in Baku, Azerbaijan to participate in the 29th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-29). He was received by the Minister for Justice of Azerbaijan, Farid Ahmadov, at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
During the meeting with Minister Ahmadov, President Paudel said that climate change is the current problem of the world and this Conference should encourage developed countries to reduce carbon emissions and invest the amount they have pledged in the climate fund and invest in developing countries suffering from climate change despite their low carbon emissions, informed the President's Press Advisor Kiran Pokharel.
According to Pokharel, Minister Ahmadov mentioned that the main topic of the current conference is that justice should be done to developing countries. He informed that even though there are no mountains like Nepal in Azerbaijan, the water source has dried up due to the melting of the mountains here.
President Paudel arrived here in Baku, via Doha, Qatar, leading a high-level Nepalese delegation to the 29th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-29) which kicked off today (November 11).
First Lady Sabita Paudel, Minister for Forests and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi, experts/advisors of the President and high-ranking officials of the Government of Nepal are participating in the Conference.
In the COP-29 Conference, President Paudel is scheduled to address the high-level session 'World Leaders Climate Action Summit' on Tuesday.
During the Conference, Nepal will hold a special high-level session under the leadership of President Paudel on November 13 to draw the world's attention to its agenda. The Conference, which began today (November 11), will last until November 22.
President Paudel left here Kathmandu for Baku on Sunday (November 10) to participate in the COP 29. He will return home on November 15 after participating in the Conference.
