Provincial Member of Parliament (MP) and former Minister of Gandaki Province, Rajiv Gurung alias Deepak Manange has been arrested in Kathmandu.

Manange, who was found guilty by the Supreme Court in an attempted murder case was apprehended by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) team of the Nepal Police on Tuesday morning from Sano Bharyang in Kathmandu.

Hearing the writ filed against Manange, a joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Nahakul Subedi and Tek Prasad Dhungana on November 5 upheld the High Court's earlier decision.

The High Court, Patan had earlier found Manange guilty in the attempted muder case of notorious gangster Milan Gurung alias Chakre Milan and sentenced him to five years in jail.

In 2061 BS (2005), a group led by gangster Manange ruthlessly attacked Chakre, severing one of his hands.

In the same case, Kathmandu District Court had slapped Manange with a two-year jail term.

On December 21, 2018, the Supreme Court had ordered the release of Manange while he was behind bars at Dilli Bazaar Prison.

On January 21, 2007, the district court sentenced Manange to two years in prison. The government appealed this decision, and the Appellate Court, Patan, overturned the verdict and sentenced Manange to five years in prison on August 12, 2012.

Manange had filed an appeal at the Supreme Court against the appellate court's decision demanding that he be allowed to appeal staying outside of prison.

In response to his appeal, the Supreme Court on December 21, 2018 had released him on a bail of Rs 27,375.
