A nonagenarian woman has been murdered in Bhaktapur. The body of 94-year-old Bishnu Kumari Twayana, a resident of Nasamana in Bhaktapur Municipality-3, was found murdered in her own home, informed DSP Dhundi Raj Neupane of the District Police Range, Bhaktapur.
"The body was found with her legs tied with ropes and her mouth gagged with a piece of cloth last night," DSP Neupane, who is also the Information Officer at the Police Range, Bhaktapur, told Nepalkhabar, "We have arrested a man last night on suspicion of his involvement in the incident. Further investigation into the incident is underway."
Neupane said that despite having four siblings, the elderly woman had been living alone in the house. According to the police, her sons have been living in Suryabinayak in Bhaktapur. The sons have given statements to the police that they have not met their mother for two months.
The lifeless body of the elderly woman was found in a room on the third floor of the three-story house. The old woman had rented out the first and second floors of the house.
Bishnu Kumari, who had gone to buy vegetables on Wednesday morning, did not come out of her house throughout the day, so her relatives were concerned and searched for her in the evening. When they went to check on her house, they found her dead, and the relatives informed the police.
Police investigation revealed that the arrested man had previously stayed in the same house. “Locals have said that she quarreled with the man during that period,” DSP Neupane said. “It is suspected that the old grudge may have led to the brutal killing.”
Bishnu Kumari’s body is currently kept at KMC Hospital in Duwakot for postmortem.
