Funeral rites for former Speaker Daman Nath Dhungana have been performed with state honors at Pashupati Aryaghat on Monday.
A troop of Nepali Army offered a 17-gun salute in honor of late Dhungana.
His sons lit the pyre of Dhungana, as per Hindu tradition.
Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairman, Narayan Prasad Dahal, Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut, Deputy Speaker Indira Rana, former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Deputy Prime Minister and ministers, leaders of various political parties, cadres and lawmakers, relatives, friends and well-wishers attended the funeral ceremony.
Dhungana, who suffered from liver-related ailment, passed away in the course of treatment at Frontline Hospital in Old Banshwar on Sunday. He was 83.
He is survived by his spouse, two sons and a daughter.
