A complaint has been filed against Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane on the charge of allegedly embezzling cooperative funds from Sahara Cooperative in Chitwan.
As many as 22 individuals filed complaints against 10 people including former Home Minister Lamichhane and former DIG Chhabilal Joshi Banjade at the District Police Office, Chitwan, Chief SP Gautam Mishra said.
Lamichhane and Chhabilal have been accused of misappropriating funds from Sahara Cooperative by transferring them to the Gorkha Media Network.
A case has already been filed in the District Court Chitwan by mentioning Gitendra Babu alias GB. The State Prosecutor's Office has recommended a second phase of investigation into the misappropriation of Rs 470 million, citing that the police couldn't trace the transfer from Sahara Cooperative to Gorkha Media Network.
An earlier accusation claimed that Rs 470 million deposited by 446 depositors was misappropriated from Sara Cooperative, located in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-3.
Lamichhane and Chhabilal Banjade will be investigated into the fund embezzlement case in the second phase of investigation. They are being investigated on the embezzlement of funds from Suryadarshan Cooperative in Pokhara, and Supreme Cooperative in Butwal. Similarly, they are being investigated on their alleged embezzlement from Swarnalakshmi Cooperative in Kathmandu. In order to investigate this case, the police have brought Banjade from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Similarly, Rabi is also being brought to Kathmandu for interrogation.
Following the investigation into these three cooperatives, the police will initiate inquiries into Rabi and Chhabi on their alleged embezzlement from Sahara Cooperative in Chitwan and Sana Paila Cooperative in Birgunj, the police said.
