The government has officially reinstated the provision allowing Members of Parliament (MPs) to hire personal secretaries. The Decision was made during a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, confirmed Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Sobita Gautam.
This move reverses a previous decision by the former Sushila Karki-led government, which had scrapped the personal secretary facility for lawmakers on September 21. The current administration, led Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) senior leader Balendra Shah, chose to revive the perk by amending the schedule of the Remuneration and Facilities of Office Bearers and Members of the Federal Parliament Act, 2073.
The decision follows a recommendation made on April 13 by the Federal Parliament Secretariat Management Committee, which urged the government to systematize the hiring process and set qualification standards for these roles.
Although the Law Ministry had drafted the necessary schedule amendments earlier, the proposal was briefly held up by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers before finally securing cabinet approval on Tuesday.
