Nepal should go for grants over loans: Former Foreign Minister Saud

Former Foreign Minister NP Saud has advised Prime Minister KP Sharma to exercise precautionary measures before taking loans under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project.

Former Foreign Minister Saud, who is also a leader of Nepali Congress, said this during a consultation meeting with former prime ministers and former foreign ministers called by Prime Minister Oli at Singha Durbar today.

"I have suggested that we should be prudent while taking loans under the BRI project," former foreign minister NP Saud told Nepalkhabar,"I stressed the importance of securing grants over loans in the meeting today."

The Nepal government should exercise maximum precautions while securing foreign loans, Saud said.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is visiting China in the first week of December.
