The Supreme Court of Nepal has rejected a habeas corpus writ petition filed by medical entrepreneur Durga Prasain, who was detained for allegedly spreading false and defamatory contents on social media platforms.
Prasain, arrested on the charge of committing cybercrimes, had lodged a habeas corpus writ with the apex court, seeking his release.
A joint bench of Justices Mahesh Sharma Paudel and Nityananda Pandey on Wednesday denied his release, turning down his petition.
Instead, the apex court issued a "directive order" for arrangements of Prasain's health treatment, Achyut Kuikel, the spokesperson at the court, said.
Nirajan, the son of Durga Prasain, had filed a habeas corpus seeking the release of his father, arguing that his father was undergoing treatment for cancer and should not be detained.
Prasai, who was arrested on November 19, is currently under investigation by the Cyber Bureau for allegedly committing cybercrime.
Prasai had posted a video footage on social media platforms alleging that Prime Minister Oli invested Rs 32 billion in telecommunications venture in Cambodia.
