The Women Rehabilitation Center (WOREC) has revealed a report showing that educated and literate women were suffering domestic violence to a greater extent.

An annual report published by the organization titled 'Anweshi', said when the research was conducted on the educational status of the women suffering from domestic violence, 77 percent of such women were found bearing the brunt.

The WOREC released the annual report on the occasion of the 16-day campaign against violence against women (VAW) on Wednesday. The study was done among 1,393 women. Among them, over 65 percent women (911) faced the violence at home. Similarly, number of literate women facing such violence stood at 1,073. Only 23 percent are illiterate ones.

Executive Director at WOREC, Sunita Mainali, informed that the data for the study was collected from all seven provinces with the coordination of human rights defenders. The data was collected from July 2023 to June 2024. There is a multidimensional analysis in the report, Mainali added.

"These are the representative cases. Many incidents of domestic violence do not come to light due to political protection, and hassle-full legal process.

The domestic violence has resulted into social violence, and suicide. The violence occurred in various forms as rape and sexual violence, harmful traditional practice. (RSS)
