Lamichhane back to custody after recording his statements for six hours

The District Attorney Office, Kathmandu on Friday recorded statements from former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane on the embezzlement of funds from Kathmandu-based Swarnalakshi Cooperative.

After recording statements for around six hours, Rabi was taken back to the custoday of District Police Office, Kathmandu, said Sandesh Shrestha, Chief of District Attorney Office, Kathmandu.

"Lamichhane was taken to the District Attorney Office at 9 am. The recording of statements continued till 3 pm and was taken back to DPO, Kathmandu," said Shrestha.  

Lamichhane's statement will continue on Sunday as it could not be completed today. Lamichhane's statements will not be taken on Saturday as it is a holiday. Once the recording of Lamichhane's statements are over, he will be taken back to Pokhara.

Lamichhane was apprehended on October 18 from Kathmandu on the alleged charge of misappropriating funds from Pokhara-based Suryadarshan Cooperative. Currently, investigations are being carried out on Lamichhane on the embezzlements of funds from five cooperatives, simultaneously. Besides fund embezzlement case, the police are also investigating Lamichhane on organized crimes and a money laundering case. The police can keep an accused in the custody up to 90 days in such cases.

Earlier, he was taken to Butwal for investigation into Supreme Cooperative fund embezzlement case. Similarly, he is also accused of misappropriating funds from Birgunj-based Sanapaila cooperative and Chitwan-based Sahara Cooperative.
