Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amrit Bahadur Rai, has said the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Cooperation Framework has been signed.
Reading out a statement on behalf of the Prime Minister at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Acting Secretary Rai said that the BRI Cooperation Framework, a comprehensive agreement incorporating 10 projects, was signed during the Prime Minister KP Oli's four-day China visit.
Rai said that ten projects were signed under the BRI, including exchange of letters for the Tokha-Chhahare tunnel, Nepal-China trade promotion, export protocol, exchange of certificate of completion for the Basantapur Nautale Durbar reconstruction, Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for development planning, economic and technical cooperation, cash assistance, volunteer Chinese language teachers, and communication technology between Nepal Television and the Chinese Media Group.
He further said that Chinese President Xi Jinping announced an additional RMB 500 million (Rs 9.34 billion) in grant assistance for Nepal during the China visit apart from US $20 million (Rs 2.7 billion) China had pledged in grant assistance for Nepal since 2072 BS.

He further shared that Nepal and China have issued a joint statement incorporating the agreements and MoUs. During this China visit, Nepal floated important development project proposals in areas including communication, infrastructure development, agriculture, commerce, and energy for bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, Rai shared, the delegation led by Prime Minister Oli paid a courtesy call on Chinese President Xi Jinping and various issues related to bilateral interest were discussed during the meeting. Similarly, the Nepali delegation also held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang. Various aspects of Nepal-China bilateral relations were discussed in an intensive and cordial manner during the meeting, he added. The delegation also met with Jhao Leji, the Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee during the China visit.
