The aspirants contending in the election for new leadership of the Federation of the Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) have expressed their commitment to make the umbrella organization of the journalists more active and professional.
The FNJ's election is scheduled for December 13 this year. In an introduction program organized by the Sancharika Samuha Nepal here on Monday in the context of the upcoming election, the candidates in the fray emphasized the need to elect an able leadership to enhance the image of the FNJ and to further strengthen its chapters.
Nirmala Sharma, president hopeful, urged the voters to seize the opportunity to establish women's leadership in the FNJ.
"This election is an apt opportunity to elect women in the leadership role," Sharma said, adding that Sancharika Samuha long had been advocating for women's representation in leadership roles.
Sharma, thus, appealed with the voters not to miss this crucial opportunity to elect women's leadership within the FNJ.
Likewise, Ram Prasad Dahal, candidate for General-Secretary, called for an able leadership that can further enhance the Federation's dignity and promote press freedom and democracy.
Stating that it was an opportune time to elect women leadership in the Federation's history, he requested the voters not to let this opportunity go in vain.
Similarly, Nitu Pandey, contesting for Vice-Chairperson, highlighted the need to elect the leadership having an experience of working in the mainstream media and having a fair understanding about the challenges faced by the working journalists.
Sancharika Samuha Nepal's President Bimala Tumbahamfe pointed out the need for inclusivity within the FNJ. Nepal Press Union's Vice-President Saloja Dahal spoke of the need to elect a capable leadership to ensure women's representation.
Journalists such as Aarati Chataut, Dhana Lama, Gajurdhan Rai among others univocally called for a leadership that eloquently enhances advocacy on the concerns and rights of the working journalists.
