With the onset of the new fiscal year 2083/84 in Bagmati Province, the number of ministries in the provincial government has officially been reduced to 8.
A provincial cabinet meeting reduced the number of ministries from 14 to 8 effective from today (July 17).
From today, only 8 ministries have been in place in Bagmati Province, including the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Law and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning, the Ministry of Drinking Water, Energy and Irrigation, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Forest and Environment, the Ministry of Health and Social Development, and the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Labor and Transport.
With the restructuring of the ministries, Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya is preparing to redistribute the responsibilities of the incumbent ministers.
According to Prabhat Tamang, the government spokesperson and Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning, 14 ministers have been reduced to 8 ministries and the recommendatioin has been forwarded to the Province Chief, accordingly.
The provincial government had decided to reduce the number of ministries in its cabinet meeting on May 5 with the objective of reducing administrative costs, enhancing efficiency.
