Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) of the Nepali Army, General Ashok Raj Sigdel, has embarked on a four-day official visit to India.

General Sigdel left for India, leading a 9-member delegation including his spouse Nita Chhetri Sigdel, at the invitation of Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army General Upendra Dwivedi a while ago. Assistant COAS Lt Gen Pradip Jung KC bade farewell to COAS General Sigdel at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

During his India visit, Sigdel will receive the rank of Honorary General of the Indian Army from Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, on December 12, the Nepali Army headquarters, Bhadrakali, said.

General Sigdel will also pay courtesy calls on higher authorities in India and participate in the Passing out Parade of Officer Cadets at the Indian Military Academy as a Reviewing Officer.

Nepal and India confer honorary CoAS ranks on each other's army chiefs, according to the tradition.

General Sigdel and his delegation will return to Nepal on December 15, 2024.

Sigdel was accorded a guard of honor at the Army headquarters earlier this morning. During his absence, Assistant COAS KC will be the officiating COAS of the Nepali Army, the Nepali Army said.
