Nepal's Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Ashok Raj Sigdel has been conferred the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army.
President Droupadi Murmu conferred the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army on General Sigdel during a special ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi this morning.
The program was attended by Indian Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi, along with high security and military officials of India, and officials from the Nepali Embassy.
Sigdel was addressed as 'Suprabal Janasewashree Maharathi' at the program.
General Sigdel had left for India on December 10, at the invitation of Indian Army Chief Dwivedi,. He is scheduled to return home on December 14.
Nepal and India have a tradition of conferring the honorary CoAS ranks on each other's army chiefs.
President Ram Chandra Paudel had conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army on Indian Army Chief Dwivedi on November 21. Dwivedi, who arrived in Nepal on November 20, returned home on November 24.
