Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passes away

Former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, has passed away. He was 92.

Soft-spoken and cerebral former Indian Prime Minister who was credited with far-reaching changes that propelled India's emergence as an economic powerhouse breathed his last in the course of treatment in New Delhi on Thursday.

His death was announced in a statement by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, the hospital where he passed away.

He was the first prime minister from the Sikh minority which is concentrated in the northern state of Punjab.
