Driver dead, 5 injured as SOS Scorpio jeep crashes in Lalitpur

The driver was killed and five others sustained injuries after a Scorpio jeep carrying employees of the SOS Children’s Village veered off the road and plunged some 50 meters in Lalitpur on Monday evening.

The ill-fated vehicle, belonging to the SOS Children’s Village in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, was traveling toward Chapagaun from Gotikhel in Mahankal Rural Municipality-3. According to police, the accident occurred at Katanbhanjyang in Mahankal Rural Municipality-2.

The driver, 54-year-old Shakti Prasad Adhikari, a resident of Koteshwar, Kathmandu, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at B&B Hospital in Gwarko, Lalitpur.

There were a total of six people on board, including the driver. Four among those who sustained injuries are currently receiving are being treated at B&B Hospital in Gwarko, while the fifth is receiving treatment at the Manikhel Health Post in Mahankal Rural Municipality-2.

Medical personnel have confirmed that all five injured passengers are out of danger. The injured have been identified as 39-year-old Sasmita Khatiwada of Koteshwar, Kathmandu; 35-year-old Bharat Paudel of Gaindakot, Nawalparasi; 36-year-old Dina Sonaha of Bardiya; 26-year-old Devendra Raj Pandey of Nuwakot; and 39-year-old Nishan Maharjan of Kirtipur Municipality-5, Kathmandu.
