The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case against Nagarjun Municipality Mayor Mohan Bahadur Basnet on charges of corruption.
Issuing a press note on Sunday, the anti-graft body said that it has filed a case against Mayor Basnet for illegally obtaining land and money from Padma Merchant Company Pvt. Ltd. and its chairman Raju Prasad Kandel and selling the land.
The graft case against Basent includes a fine of Rs 220 million, comprising Rs 90 million for corruption and Rs 190 million for money laundering charges.
Similarly, his wife Urmila Basnet has also been accused of being an accomplice in the corruption case, demanding punishment for her involvement.
Similarly, a another graft case has been filed against Raju Prasad Kandel, the chairman of Padma Merchant Company Pvt. Ltd. and Padma Colony Pvt. Ltd.
