A man died and his wife sustained critical injuries in a scooter accident that occurred in Bhaktapur district.
The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Nishchal Rajbhandari of Jhapa, Bhadrapur, who was currently staying at Dhunchepakha in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, Superintendent of Police at the District Police Range, Bhaktapur , Dhundi Raj Neupane, told Nepalkhabar.
His wife Puja Shrestha, 28, who was a pillion rider, sustained critical injuries. She is currently undergoing treatment at International Hospital in Bhaktapur.
The accident took place at Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-2, Sanothimi on Tuesday night.
"The couple sustained critical injuries in the accident. The husband who was admitted to Norvic International Hospital died in the course of treatment on Thursday night," said SP Neupane, "His body has been taken to TU Teaching Hospital for postmortem this morning. His wife Puja is undergoing treatment at International Hospital."
The accident occurred when a scooter-borne couple tried to swerve a street dog, locals have said. According to their kin, they were preparing to fly to Australia. They were returning home after purchasing goods.
The deceased is the son of former deputy mayor of Bhadrapur Municipality, Jhapa, Chandra Shrestha.
They had been studying in a university in Australia.
