Though there are new faces in the parliament, the face of Kathmandu remains the same.
The public's aspirations for development and change remains unattained as the capital city still bears the mark of haphazard urbanization, pollution, dilapidated yet unmanaged public infrastructure, potholes-riddled roads, lack of adequate public transportation, drinking water, among others.
The major political parties have witnessed the people's frustration in the form of mandate from the recent elections. The share of mainstream parties in the parliament has shrunk and new forces have risen.
The people want their development aspirations to be fulfilled at the earliest and the political sphere must be aware of this fact. Or else, people are going to ensure that major political parties are decimated to the ground in the next elections.
Awareness among the public has heightened drastically, and next time, only those who are going to truly work to change the face of the nation might get to top political posts.
It is yet to be seen if the face of the nation will change in the next five years.
Meanwhile, let's take a look at present day Kathmandu that houses the sovereign parliament.
