British Ambassador to Nepal, Rob Fenn, has been learning Nepali language by composing beautiful sentences for the past five months.
During the period, he has also made great progress in learning Nepali. This can be seen from an interesting video he posted on the social media platform X on Sunday.
At the start of this short video, Ambassador Fenn, sporting a Nepali dhaka topi and coat, shares that he is learning the Nepali language. Then, he recites his favorite and first learned Nepali words.
‘My favorite Nepali word is 'Mitho', (sweet)", he says, "After that, my favorite word is 'Rangichangi' (colorful)."
The reason he likes the word ‘Rangichangi’ so much is that it is the color used in Holi, a festival of colors, which is celebrated with fanfare in Nepal. He shows, in the same video, a photo of himself with his family during Holi last year in the video.
Of the five words that Ambassador Fenn has learned in the past five months, the third, fourth, and fifth are 'Mitrata' (friendship), ‘Shubhakamana' (best wishes), and 'Lastai' (very much), respectively.
He is seen very cheerful in the video while pronouncing ‘lastai’ (very much), probably because it is a foreign word that came to Nepali from English.
"This word (lastai) also has an English word," he says in the video of himself eating Nepali food with his wife, "lastai Mitho" (very delicious!).
The sixth word he has learned and liked in the meantime is ‘Shubhakamana.’ He has used it this way– ‘Naya Barshako Shubhakamana' (Happy New Year).
In this process, he has used his third favorite word ‘friendship’ in the context of Nepal-UK relations. In the video, he says, "Nepal ra UK Bich Gahiro Mitrata Chha" (Nepal-UK enjoy a close friendship).
Similarly, Ambassador Fenn had also reached Janakpur in the second week of Nepali month Paush to celebrate his wedding anniversary with his spouse Julia. He celebrated his 22nd wedding anniversary by visiting Ram Janaki Temple in Janakpur.
His style of celebrating the anniversary was also amazing.
Dressed in the Nepali national costume of Dhaka Topi and Daurasuruwal, Ambassador Fenn resembled a groom, while Julia, radiant in a sari, looked every bit the bride.
Then they entered Ram Janaki Temple. The Brahmins of the temple chanted Sanskrit mantras. Their wedding anniversary celebration style did not seem different from that of any Hindu bride and groom.
